THE SIKKA COLLECTION
REVIVING HISTORY, CRAFTING SUSTAINABILITY
In 1951, King Abdulaziz Ibn Saud, with the support of Aramco, initiated the country's first railway line to facilitate crude oil transportation. For decades, these wooden railways withstood the intense Arabian sun before being replaced by concrete. Today, the historical significance and unique characteristics of this wood inspire us.
The Sikka Collection is a celebration of this heritage, creatively transforming the original wooden sleepers from the inaugural railway track commissioned by King Abdulaziz Al-Saud. This collection includes a range of pieces such as Bench 51, a distinctive coffee table, a console, wood flooring, various benches, stools, planters, and frames. Each piece retains the unique textures and marks of its historical journey, integrating a piece of the past into modern design. By repurposing these historical wooden railways, DAHR underscores the importance of design sustainability. Reclaiming this wood not only reduces the need for new materials but also minimizes waste and lessens the environmental impact associated with deforestation and production processes. The Sikka Collection exemplifies how sustainable design can harmonize historical significance, aesthetic beauty, and environmental responsibility.
With the Sikka Collection, we honor our past while advocating for a sustainable future. These pieces demonstrate how historical materials can be revitalized into timeless, functional designs that serve both our communities and the environment.
